One Love Concert raises £760

24 July, 2017

On the 18th July Sir Thomas Wharton students organised a One Love musical and drama extravaganza to raise money for the victims of the Manchester Concert terror attacks. Three of our students had been present on that tragic evening and they and their peers wanted to contribute and make a difference.

Daniel Heeley was the instigator of the One Love Concert. He had attended the Ariana Grande concert back in May and was so moved by everything that happened on that night that he wanted to help and support others who were affected both physically and emotionally.

The quality of young musicians and singers was astounding with our more experienced performers sing and playing alongside new up and coming talent. Together, students and staff raised over £760 from ticket and refreshment sales.

Daniel said "I’m so overwhelmed by everyone’s support and all who attended and helped out, helping to make something so positive out of such a tragic event. The original concert holds some traumatic memories for me, but the concert at school has helped heal some of those thoughts and the event was a real success”.

The money raised has been sent to the British Red Cross Society We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. If you would like to donate to this cause please click here
