Curriculum

The Learning Experience:

At Sir Thomas Wharton Academy we have a broad and balanced curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of students and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

We ensure our curriculum:

  • Includes English, Mathematics and Science.
  • Includes Religious Education.
  • Secures access to independent, impartial careers advice for students in years 8 to 13.
  • Includes Sex and Relationship Education (SRE).

Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 Transition and Induction:

We feel there is a lot we can do to make the settling in period as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. That is why we work with students from as early as Year 5 from our feeder schools, inviting them to visit the Academy on a regular basis to familiarise themselves with life at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy. Our feeder schools are:

We dedicate the first day of term to the new Year 7 to make them feel totally welcome. Within the first few weeks we have a full programme of settling in activities designed to help students to get to know the Academy, the staff and each other.

 

Progress 8:

Progress 8 is a measure of improvement from arrival at the college from Key Stage 2. This performance measure is there to show the distance a student has travelled from Key Stage 2 to Year 11.
